Bali asks for honesty: this is not an island of open motorways, and the south coast crawls for much of the day. Driven well, though, it is one of the most rewarding places in the region to hold a wheel.
The road that matters is the Ida Bagus Mantra bypass along the east coast — long, smooth and coastal, running past Keramas towards Padang Bai. At sunrise, with the sea on your right and Mount Agung ahead, it is the best fast road on the island. The Uluwatu peninsula rewards a GT too: clifftop roads to Melasti and Pandawa, then valet at the beach clubs. The climb to Kintamani, for the caldera view, suits a 911 or an AMG more than anything wider. Skip Canggu's inner lanes; they were built for scooters.
Many guests split the difference: a performance car for two mornings, and NAGA BLACK for the rest. Chauffeured Alphards handle villa transfers, dinner runs and airport pickups while you stay out of Sunset Road's clutch-cooking traffic. For villa weddings, the BLACK fleet is the standard choice.
Practicalities: Indonesia requires an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence, and police checks around Kuta and Canggu do ask. Fuel is Pertamax Turbo, stocked at the larger Pertamina stations — we mark them at handover. Delivery to villas across Seminyak, Canggu, Umalas, Ubud and the Bukit is standard. Wet season, November to March, demands patience on the hills; the rain arrives fast and leaves faster.
Do I need an IDP in Bali?
Yes. Indonesia requires an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence. Police checks around Kuta and Canggu are common, and an IDP makes them a non-event.
Is a supercar practical in Bali?
For specific roads at specific hours, yes — the east coast bypass at sunrise and the Bukit's cliff roads are genuinely good. For day-to-day movement, most guests pair a short self-drive booking with NAGA BLACK chauffeured cars.
